The Visit blends handmade craft, storytelling, and quiet theatrical illusion to explore how the past persists in the body—and how guidance can arrive long after we think we’ve outgrown it. A solitary performer is joined by a figure who knows them from before—before the choices, the revisions, the version they’ve become. Speaking with the authority of memory stretched over time, this presence offers insight that is intimate, inconvenient, and difficult to ignore. Through movement, stillness, and live exchange, their relationship unfolds: what begins as control gradually shifts toward listening, accountability, and recognition. The encounter doesn’t resolve so much as recede, leaving a question in its wake: what are we still unwilling to hear?
Developed in parallel with Loco7’s Studies in Puppet Form Workshop—a 10-week series with older adults and members of the Sirovich Center for Balanced Living—the work is rooted in a shared exploration of body and puppetry as tools for expression. Through sequential sessions, participants build skills in movement, spatial awareness, and character creation while discovering new ways to communicate identity. Blending puppetry, dance, spoken word, and music, the workshop culminates in a vivid, image-driven performance created by the participating artists, reflecting a wide spectrum of lived experience and emotion.
