PLUNGE

A SOLO PIECE

Plunge is a solo work which combines the use of body puppets, marionettes, masks, dance, and music. It is framed in an unfamiliar world where the protagonist struggles to find a new place to call home. His journey is filled with strange dreams that encroach on his view of the world, creating exciting conceptual images of the “displaced.”

The play deals with the relationship between where we come from and where we go. Restrepo explains, “Grandparents’ ashes and the footsteps through the earth give us a way to enter the strange world of the main character as he deals with dreams of his former world, his homeland. They are drifting away, and the anguish that this sensation brings about forms visualizations of the main character’s mental state.”

Plunge, as with other Loco7 productions, creates movement and visual elements to abstractly express the anguish and detachment, which is the displaced persons experience; taking aim at the transcending barriers and linking the political and social borders which are in constant flux throughout the global community.
